Story

The story begins in January 2023 at MEDES church, where Humberto organized an informative conference during an epidemic crisis. He invited Claudia, a youth worker with the local government, to be a speaker alongside others. Their professional conversations soon became personal, reconnecting after not speaking since 2017. By summer, their casual chats grew into a friendship. Humberto developed feelings for Claudia and, after much prayer, learned she was also starting to see him romantically, though she was hesitant.

Humberto was traveling, exploring professional creative projects, as well as serving as a youth leader at MEDES, and was very occupied. Claudia was focused on her career, and was not considering a relationship as her job was very demanding of her time. They both did not want to be a distraction to one another, so they prayed.

Eventually, Humberto asked Claudia on a date, which she accepted. Their first date at the National Portrait Gallery was a success, and they continued seeing each other. One night, after a double date with their good friends Hedellim and Salvador, there was a car breakdown. Humberto was deeply impressed by Claudia’s calmness, realizing in that moment, she was the one for him.

After a few more dates, Claudia started to become hesitant. Afraid of her growing feelings for Humberto, she had wanted to end the courting for good and was planning on telling him after their next date. Interestingly, Humberto had planned to ask her to be his girlfriend that very same date. After dinner, Humberto took her on the Ferris Wheel at National Harbor, and with all his nerves, asked her to be his girlfriend. Despite her fear and hesitations, Claudia said yes! Although very excited they really wanted their relationship to honor God, do His will, and be obedient to it. So they prayed, they fasted, and waited for God's answer. The relationship continued to grow and produce fruit. They realized they  challenged each other, spiritually, personally, and mentally. Then, finally, despite her fears, on July 4th, 2024, Claudia confessed her feelings to Humberto and said she loved him for the first time while watching the fireworks from a boat on the Potomac River. Soon after, they went back to praying, enjoying their relationship but also seeking more confirmation from God. The wonderful thing about our God is that He answers in His time, His Way, and exactly how He knows we will understand. The Lord had already confirmed it to Humberto, but Claudia was stubborn. The Lord confirmed it twice to Claudia, and one time to both, through a dream, thus leading to putting down the fear of the relationship God had designed for them to be in. Which leads us to today! Jesus has and remains the center of this story. To Him goes all the glory and all praise for getting them both here.
